Sparks are flying between Anna Kendrick and Alex Edelman.
A source confirms to PEOPLE that the Another Simple Favor actress and the Emmy-winning comedian “have been dating for several months,” after photos surfaced of the couple in a car together in Los Angeles recently.
According to the insider, Kendrick, 39, and Edelman, 36, “celebrated his birthday together in March” — and “she’s met his mom.”
“It doesn’t seem casual,” the source adds. “Anna’s very private, though. They enjoy date night at lowkey restaurants that are not your typical celeb hangouts.”
Reps for Kendrick and Edelman did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment on Monday, July 7.

Kendrick previously dated her Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director Edgar Wright from 2009 to 2013, cinematographer Ben Richardson from 2014 to 2020 and Bill Hader starting in 2020.
The Pitch Perfect actress and Hader, 47, broke up in June 2022 after over a year together, Entertainment Tonight first reported. Reps for both actors declined to comment at the time.
While Kendrick is generally private about her romantic relationships, she opened up about getting out of a seven-year abusive relationship during an October 2024 Call Her Daddy podcast episode.
While she didn’t name the ex she was referring to, the Woman of the Hour director admitted she found it “difficult to identify” that she was in an abusive relationship at first, because “it didn’t follow the traditional pattern.”
“I was reading all the articles and going, ‘ … Some of it looks like how they’re describing it, but not completely,” she recalled, confirming that “the relationship was seven years.”

Kendrick previously told PEOPLE in a September 2022 interview amid her heart-wrenching performance in Alice, Darling that her character Alice’s story “resonated” with her because she was “coming out of a personal experience with emotional abuse and psychological abuse.”

Describing her former relationship, she shared, “I was in a situation where I loved and trusted this person more than I trusted myself. So when that person is telling you that you have a distorted sense of reality and that you are impossible and that all the stuff that you think is going on is not going on, your life gets really confusing really quickly.”
Back in 2020, Kendrick opened up about her dating history while discussing her Max series Love Life. She told The Sydney Morning Herald she is “just so happy that I’m clearer now about what I will accept from people in my life.”
“The real arc that we wanted was to show how we learn from each relationship. Even though our relationships end, it doesn’t mean they are complete failures,” explained Kendrick at the time. “People come into your life and you grow and they change you, and what you learn from them might be really positive or it might be negative.”
